Hillingdon bin collection dates for Christmas and New Year plus how to recycle real trees

← More from My London

Hillingdon residents can expect some changes to their bin collections in the next few weeks. The disruption is expected to last until Monday, January 5.

If your rubbish is due to be collected on Christmas Eve, then your new collection date will be one day earlier on Tuesday, December 23. If your collection day is Christmas Day, which falls on a Thursday, then your new collection date will be Christmas Eve.

Scheduled collections for Boxing Day will see a one-day delay, instead being collected on Saturday, December 27. All collections planned for December 29 until New Year's Day will see no changes.

As New Year's Day is a bank holiday, scheduled collections for New Year's Day won't be made until Friday, January 2.

If your usual collection would take place on Friday, January 2, it will now take place on Saturday, January 3. All collections will return to normal by Monday, January 5.

Hillingdon Council has asked residents to leave rubbish out for collection by 6am, near the front gate, but not on the pavement. Separate arrangements are in place for flats and business premises.

Between Monday, January 5, and Friday, January 16, residents can recycle real Christmas trees for free through the council.

If you live in a house, place your tree at the edge of your property boundary (and visible to collectors) by 6am on your collection day.

For information on specific tree collection dates for your address, visit the Hillingdon Council website. If you live in a flat, collections can be booked by emailing wastesupervisor@hillingdon.gov.uk.

Residents are asked to ensure trees are placed next to the bin store or collection point for waste bins, ensuring access to the bins is not blocked. Trees must not be put inside communal bins.

Unwanted artificial trees should be taken to one of the council's waste and recycling centres or disposed of using the bulky waste collection service - costing between £35 and £85.

If you would like to dispose of your tree, or have it collected, all decorations and pots must be removed. Trees taller than six feet must be cut in half.
