Hillingdon Council is trialling a new ‘Pop-Up Waste Drop’ collection service, making it easier for residents to dispose of unwanted and bulky items for free in their local area.
The first Pop-Up Waste Drop will be held at Charville Community Centre, Bury Avenue, Hayes, on Saturday 31 January from 10am until 2pm, with the next on Saturday 14 February, at the Battle of Britain Bunker Exhibition and Visitor Centre, Wren Avenue, Uxbridge, from 10am to 2pm.
The additional service offers residents the opportunity to drop off items they no longer need near to their homes without having to visit one of the borough's waste and recycling sites - as well as supporting those with limited mobility or vehicle access.
The sessions are only for items not already collected by the council’s wide range of weekly collections, including general household waste, dry mixed recycling, garden and food waste.
Residents can bring up to five items per household, with accepted items including:
Items which will not be accepted include:
To use the service, residents need to bring their items to the collection location and present proof of address or their HillingdonFirst card. Vans and commercial vehicles will not be permitted.
Cllr Wayne Bridges, Hillingdon Council’s Cabinet Member for Community and Environment, said: “We understand that it’s not always easy, or possible, for some residents to get to our waste and recycling centres.
“With our new Pop-Up Waste Drop pilot we’re bringing the solution to people’s doors, with our dedicated team visiting locations across the borough, so you can just drop and go.
“We’re pleased to be launching this service, in addition to our variety of waste and recycling options, to continue to support the borough’s recycling efforts and protect the local environment.
“Keep an eye on our website and social media for when the mobile service will be in your area.”
The trial initiative will run until June, before being reviewed, and operate in addition to Harefield Civic Amenity Site, the West Drayton Waste Weekends and the council’s bulky waste collection service.
