Hillingdon Council has agreed proposals, subject to planning approval, to create two much-needed modern care homes and two new affordable family-sized properties to directly support residents’ needs.
The initial plans, agreed by the council’s Cabinet last Thursday (23 July), would see the six-bedroom care homes, for 12 adults with learning disabilities and complex needs, built in Nelson Lane, Uxbridge alongside two three-bed affordable homes for rent for local families.
The care facilities will help meet the growing demand for high quality, specialist care in the borough and reduce reliance on costly out-of-borough placements while ensuring residents remain connected to their communities, families, and support networks.
The current buildings onsite are unused, outdated and past their useable life, requiring major structural repairs and the site will be completely redeveloped.
Cllr Susan O’Brien, Hillingdon Council’s Cabinet Member for Adults, Children, Health and Care, said: “This proposed scheme would be another positive step towards modernising and future-proofing our care provision, while improving outcomes and increasing independent living options for our vulnerable residents.
“By investing in our own provision, we're reducing reliance on external providers, driving down costs, and creating a more sustainable care system.”
Cllr Nick Denys, Hillingdon Council’s Cabinet Member for Planning, Housing and Property, added: “We’re working hard to deliver more much-needed affordable homes by making best use of our land, with a diverse mix of housing developments under construction.
