That the Cabinet Member for Finance and the Cabinet
Member for Property, Highways & Transport agreed to the
capital release requests of £ 485,886 from the Disabled
Facilities Grant (DFG) 202 2/23 budget for the funding of
grants for various adaptati ons and Hospital discharge
grants.
Reason for decision Disabled Facilities Grants (DFG) are grants the Council is legally
required to give under the Housing Grants, Construction and
Regeneration Act 1996 for works needed by disabled owner
occupiers and private tenants to adapt and improve their homes
so that they can continue to live independently. The majority of
DFGs are awarded to, or on behalf of, elderly owner-occupiers.
A significant minority are also for disabled children. The grants
allow the disabled occupier to access all parts of their home and
necessary alterations to, or provision of new, f acilities thereby
enabling as independent a life as possible.
These grants will help vulnerable residents across the Borough
and provide a capital improvement for their wellbeing. The
grants will minimise the possibility of hospitalisation resulting
from falls and other accidents. This is consistent with the policy
of prevention and support to enable individuals to live safely in

their own homes ; the alternative being a long-term residential
placement.

None. The Council is legally required to give under the Housing
