That the Cabinet Member for Property, Highways &
Transport and the Cabinet Member for Finance:
1) Approved the appointment of C WG Group Ltd as
principal contractor to undertake roofing works at
Hillside Infant School at a cost of £763k; and,
2) Agreed to the capital release request of £ 880k from
the 2022-27 School Conditions Building Programme
budget for the funding of roofing works at Hillside
Infant School.
Reason for decision Roof age related defects, on-going leaks and condition surveys
highlighted immediate issues at Hillside Infant School. Roofs
across the school we re considered beyond their serviceable
lives and temporary repairs we re no longer effective deeming
extensive works required throughout.
Alternative options
considered and
rejected
Repairs were considered to prolong the existing life, but these
were deemed an expensive short-term fix, defects were in such
quantity that the success of repair works would be unlikely due
to the roof being outside of its serviceable life. The roofs also
presented significant energy losses, failure to address these

would mean the school would continue to see increased running
costs.
