That the Cabinet Member for Finance and the Cabinet
Member for Property, Highways & Transport:
1. Accepted the tender and approve the award of
contract for the r eplacement of refuse chute
extensions with automatic fire shutter plate to V
Management Group Limited t/ a Chute Fire
Certification UK at a cost of £100k; and
2. Agreed to the capital release request of £ 115K from
the Fire Safety Work stream within the Housing
Revenue Account Works to Stock Programme
2024/25 capital budget for the r eplacement of refuse
chute extensions with automatic fire shutter plate at
various housing sites.
Reason for decision The recommendation is to replace the refuse chutes extensions
at the premises listed in Appendix A of the confidential report to

meet BS1449-1 and this requires automatic shut off plates to be
installed within the refuse chutes . The C ouncil is required to
carry out these recommendations to be compliant with current
regulations.
This capital release is to remove the existing chute shut off plate
and to supply automatic fire shutter plates also incorporating
manual shut off factuality for maintenance purposes to replace
it. This will improve the fire safety within the blocks listed in
Appendix A of the confidential report.
Officers procured the works via open tender and the winning
contractor w as V Management Group Limited t/ a Chute Fire
Certification UK. They offer the most competitive price and are
compliant in all respects with the C ouncil's performance
specification.
